Seydisfjordur, Iceland
We started sailing in to the relatively short fjord around 8:30. Although short it was still magnificent with snow capped mountains sloping directly into the sea. We have seen a lot of great things on our trip so far but the slow passage down the fjords ( especially those in Norway ) have been the highlight of the trip and what I will probably remember the most.
Since Seydisfjordur is just a small fishing village we stayed on board in the morning and ventured out after lunch. It was a pleasant stroll in the village and stopped in a craft shop, nosed around the supermarket and admired some of the art work in some of the yards.
There was a path to a waterfall part way up a mountain and I decided to climb it. Dear wife declined and decided instead to bring our laptop out to the visitor centre which had free WiFi. She managed to Skype her mother and our daughter before everyone else found out and crashed the system. I managed to reach the base of the waterfall huffing and puffing and sweating profusely but the water from the waterfall was way too cold to even think of trying to cool off.
Speaking of cooling off, we will be crossing the Artic Circle later tonight and there is a Polar Bear Dip planned when we do cross. Of course it is only in the ship’s pool but we are staying up to participate.
Tomorrow: Akureyri, Iceland
