THOUGHTFUL TUESDAY

Time out for Mom

Would you feel ill at ease going to a movie alone?

Or to eat at a restaurant?  A concert?

I have been married for 42 years with 3 married children and 6 grandchildren so being alone doesn’t happen very often. For most of my alone time I am in the car as I drive to places by myself. I love to listen to the radio and sing along without the comments of the rest of the family. I don’t mind eating in a restaurant alone especially if I have book to read. I don’t think  I have ever attended a concert alone since DH usually buys the tickets.

Being alone doesn’t bother me although DH tends to be more on his own than me. He actually thrives on being alone. While I was away taking care of my father, DH says he loved having his own time to do his own thing. In fact one of his biggest worries was when I retired and that I would ruin his routine. He loves the fact that he can cook what he likes and not be burdened by my allergies.

We live together and yet we pursue our own activities. I get computer time while he watches his TV shows and vice versa. We do watch “Wheel of Fortune” and “Jeopardy” together.

I love my alone time and cherish my family time.

I'm so with you on these answers! If I want to see or go somewhere, it happens, one way or another! I also have six grandchildren, and it's always easy taking them anywhere too, we enjoy most of the same things!
It's interesting to see how you both have sort of separate lives and enjoy it. I do like my alone time, but so enjoy doing stuff with my husband and we share the same interests. So...doing anything without him would be a drag. I could do, but it's so much more fun sharing it with him. Retirement is a few years off still, so it'll be interesting to see if we get on each others nerves at that time. lol
I don't do a lot on my own. I do go to movies alone and I go to craft stores alone. But usually other shopping hubby and I do together. I probably wouldn't like to eat in a restaurant alone either.

We do have alone time at home. We like a lot of the same shows, but we also like different shows. So when I'm watching mine, he goes in on the computer or whatever. I will go read or sometimes sit in the room when he is watching his, but I'll be on my iPad or knitting and not paying too much attention.

That is great you can spend time together by being in the same room or part of the house without drowning each other. I enjoy time alone.
Your hubby and your relationship sound a lot like mine and my hubby - well, aside from the number of kids and grandkids part...heh! We pretty much do our own individual thing - he's usually out in the garage on his computer while I'm in the house on mine, or he's out playing on his guitar and enjoying his own solitude. Of course *my* actual solitude (for now) happens when the kids are at school and the hubby is at work. ;) As far as going to a movie or concert or restaurant solo, I'd much rather at least call a friend. ;)

But I LOVE your last sentence, because you said exactly what I was thinking... I love my alone time but cherish my family time. Perfect!! :)
