WEDNESDAY HODGE PODGE

Royal Hodgepodge

Welcome to this week's edition of the Wednesday Hodgepodge!

1. July 24th is Amelia Earhart Day.  Earhart was the first female to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean.  What's something you've recently accomplished solo?

Tough question! Since I have retired I spend a lot of time with D H. About the only time I get away is to babysit the grandchildren. He stays home while I take care of them.

2.  What's one product you use that never ever fails?

Vinegar! I recently used it on my couch to freshen it.

3. Have you found your place in the world? Where is it?

Yes! I am retired and this is the best place to be.

4.  Worst movie you ever saw?

I am not a big movie fan however I saw the movie about Clark Gable and Carole Lombard in a theatre and it came on TV within 2 months. I have never gone to a movie theatre since.

5. What's the last fun thing you did?

Played trains with the neighbourhood children. I had a 4 year old, 18 month old and an 10 month old on the veranda. It was a lot of fun.

6. The month of July is named for Roman Emperor Julius Caesar...ever been to Rome? What's your favourite Italian dish?

Yes and we are going back this November. I flew out of Rome after our Mediterranean cruise and vowed I would never fly into see it again so we are on a 42 day cruise from Fort Lauderdale to Rome and back.

My favourite Italian dish is Veal Marsala.

7. What is one piece of advice you'd offer new mom Kate Middleton?

Don’t sweat the small stuff!

8.  Insert your own random thought here.

Cooler, drier weather has returned to our area so we have been able to walk our favourite beach park. I love the sound of the waves crashing on to shore.

Have a great day and enjoy the view.

A 42-day cruise? Wow!
Oh my word...a 42-day cruise to Italy? What a wonderful trip!!!!

Vinegar is one of my favorite products too and for more than cleaning. Thanks to taking a tablespoon full in half a glass of water at the slightest hint of sneeze I have been cold free for three years and counting.

I'm a teensy bit envious you're headed to Rome....enjoy! Great advice for any new mom!
I love vinegar for everything too! And wow - 42 days - what an amazing journey! Your "fun time" made me smile... how precious!

....and vinegar works? You dilute, I imagine?!!! That's something I've learned today.
My recent post "The Woody Woodpecker Show"...starring:
Interesting, your answer for #4... I read a biography about Clark Gable, and it was a little slow moving for my taste, but I loved the romance between him and Carole.. True love at it's best, but so sad to end tragically the way it did... And then I remember reading a book about Burt Lahr, whom I ADORE as the Cowardly Lion in The Wizard of Oz. I was so happy to stumble upon the book at some yard sale, but then I really didn't enjoy reading it, and I never finished it. Sometimes, I think, you just can't judge/see the whole TRUE picture as it was, especially when you have to take into consideration WHO is telling the story, you know?? Another author or another director might have presented far better.. or far worse.. who knows?!... As for Veal Marsala?? I've never HAD it! I'll have to try it sometime.. or at least make it myself!.. Which will bring us back to Number One!!! (0; Have a great week! ~tina

Your cruise sounds like a wonderful thing to be looking forward to. I have cruised out of Rome, but never such a long one.
Good advice for Kate.
What beautiful pictures! I can't imagine being on a cruise ship for 42 days! How awesome.
Beautiful photos! I would love to be walking there right now. I was going to say vinegar too but actually both vinegar and baking soda are very useful to me.

I had no idea you could use vinegar on a couch. Guess you learn something new every day. And now I'm wondering how you would use it - spray it on??

I mixed it with water and sprayed it on the couch. I have a book with all of the uses for vinegar.
Ah, some surf. That's one thing that hasn't been great about the 'heatwave' we had in Scotland - been NO surf. Never seen the sea so calm in Scotland before!

I hope Scotland is a little cooler when we arrive in August.
Knowing how much you love cruising a six week cruise to Italy sounds like heaven for you! How long is the layover in Rome?

We stay over night in Rome well actually it is the port about an hour away. Those cruisers taking half the trip get off and those coming back get on.
