MEMORY MONDAY

My mother has written her memoirs and has been after me to write mine. I have been resisting for a while however I am creating Memory Monday to help me along. Come join me with your own memories. Each week will be a different prompt to encourage the writing of your memories. Link your memories and share them with everyone.

Our prompt is: My First Memory

My first memory goes back to when I was 4 years old. We had just moved into our house and my Dad needed cigarettes. We walked up the street to the corner store. Oh what a delight it was! There in front of me was a whole counter of penny candies. Of course Dad gave me some of his change from buying the cigarettes which I immediately spent on candy. It was so hard to choose from blackballs, marshmallow bananas, gummies and gum.

This store was to be a big part of my childhood. Unfortunately the store has been closed for many years and is now a residence. Whenever I walk by today I can smell the candy and see Mr. Hadfield being so patient with us. Many an allowance was left there.

Next Week’s Prompt: My First Home

My daughter made us a Memory Monday button that you can grab from my sidebar if you want.

Retired Not Tired Memory Monday

Please link up your posts to this continuing linky so we can watch each other’s memoirs develop over this year.  Please use the format of “PROMPT – BLOG NAME” so we can follow each week’s writing.

Nice memory. Very sweet.

It is difficult to think of one single memory, but I think one that I remember is something at Easter that we did while Mom and Dad were outside. :)

Mom and Dad came back into the house to us grinding hard boiled eggs into the carpet. :) And that was right before we went to church, and we were all dressed up. :)

Mom said: "Now what made you do that?" We said: "We don't really know."

Mom just helped us clean it up. She was and still is the sweetest lady ever.

Thanks.

What a vivid first memory.

I loved marshmallow bananas - I haven't thought of those in ages!

Wishing you a lovely day.

I really like this idea and you have a great memory, our close little market was not far away and when we got old enough we could walk there to refund glass bottles for our spending money. I am going to participate and my first memory is up.
That is a great story and so full of detail! I remember a corner store at my grandmothers in Oakland and my other grandmothers in Venice, CA. We used to hunt for bottles just for the return deposit as penny candy was so fun to buy!
What a sweet first memory! I can't even remember my first memory!!!

What a great idea. Thank you for the invitation to join in. I'll definitely be back.
Your memory is very vivid. I can almost see the store. I also see a little blonde girl who could just barely see over the counter. Oh, wait! Maybe that's me. hahaha
I, too, remember our local grocery/candy store, Porlier Market, which still stands (no idea if it's a business now or closed again). I like your meme idea; I don't have much to say about my first home, but I'll keep watching for opportunities to join in.

It's going to take me a week or so to remember this wonderful new meme of yours! Is it ok if I combine the first one with the second on this coming up Monday?
