WEDNESDAY HODGE PODGE

Questions for the Wednesday Hodgepodge:

Some weeks the Hodgepodge seems to roll around faster than others, doesn't it? Here are this weeks questions...

1. What is ONE thing or area in your home or life you hope to report is completely organized when 2013 draws to a close?  Do you  have a plan to make it happen?

The house is in the beginning stages of being repainted. The dining room ceiling was done yesterday. On with the walls!

2. What's the worst uniform you've ever had to wear for a job?

I only had one job that required a uniform and that was my first job with the City as a park attendant. Keeping it washed was the hardest part.

3. What was your last kitchen 'mishap'?  This question comes to you courtesy of Betty who blogs over at A Glimpse Into Midlife...everyone go say hi to Betty!

Since I don’t cook I only bake so the last mishap in the kitchen was when the apple pie overflowed on the wrong baking pan. D H complained it was too hard to clean however he fixed anyway.

4. How do you protect yourself from other people's negativity?

Essentially being a positive person I tried laughter and joking with other people. I also give them another perspective if I can.

5. Who in your family do you favour most (physically)? If you have children, who do people say they favour? Do you agree?

I can honestly say I am throwback to my grandmother.

img026The only difference is that she was 4foot 11 inches and I am 5 foot 3 inches. She loved tea and reading and adored children. She was my inspiration and life-saver.

My middle daughter C is almost a perfect image of my sister P except in height. They have moles in the same place as well as the same shaped fingernails.

6. January 8th is National Bubble Bath Day...will you be celebrating?

Absolutely! bring on the bubble bath.

7.  Some of the 'world's best winter festivals' are - Mardi Gras (New Orleans), Quebec Winter Festival (Canada), Sundance Film Festival (Park City, Utah),  Rio Carnivale (Brazil), Sapporo Snow Festival (Japan), Venice Carnival (Italy) and the Harbin Ice Festival (Northern China).  Of those listed (and if cost were not a factor) which would you most like to attend and why?

I would love to do Mardi Gras in New Orleans. New Orleans is on my bucket list.

8.  Insert your own random thought here.

I hope everyone notices the countdown clock on my blog. D H is getting his tour hat on and looking for places of interest in Tampa. We will be spending an extra day in Tampa as we meet up with our friends who surprised us by joining the cruise.  Not only did they get a good deal on the cruise buying it last minute but they got the room right next door to us. How cool is that? Now I have think about what to pack. There are 4 formal dinners and 10 casual ones. We love to dress up for dinner but do I go long or short?

D H has put his foot down and I can only take one suitcase this time. Last cruise we took 7 suitcases. The advantage of driving and not flying however our cruise in August does require a flight so this is a practice. It is an exciting time.

This cruise is 14 days to the Caribbean.
I'm definitely not going to tell my Mum you took 7 suitcases on your last cruise. I'm trying to encourage her to pack more lightly. Your grandmother looks so lovely and kind.

I would be hard pressed to cut things down to one suitcase. I never pack light! : ) Hope you have a wonderful trip.
apple pie? Oh what the heck, I bet it was good tho. What a sweet, sweet looking grandmother. I don't even remember mine much. Just through pictures, I was too young when both passed away. Wish I could have known them.

One suitcase for all those dinners? That's a tough one! I'm not good at packing light. I can, but I don't like it : ) Enjoy your travels!

If you pack six instead of seven you've still conserved ;-)
14 days in the Caribbean, all those formal dinners, and he expects you to have only one suitcase? Oh dear... um, good luck!

Spilling over pies always make such a mess! I try to remember to put a cookie sheet underneath but that doesn't always happen.
Enjoy your cruise. I hope you can find a big suitcase :)

One suitcase for a 14 day cruise? I'd never make it! It sounds like a blast, especially with some friends along to enjoy the good times.
I just visited Tampa, wasn't very impressed with it though. The bay is beautiful but nothing was close to our hotel. There was lots of construction and it was very easy to miss turns, and once you miss a turn your on the causeway to St. Petersburg or Clearwater. There were several people from cruises in our hotel. I remember one day the lobby was packed, they were all from a cruise and were waiting for their rooms to be available.
Hope you have a fun cruise and good luck with the packing. One suit case would be a challenge for me.

I am impressed with your one suitcase this time. I went to Ireland two years ago and was determined to take only a carry on.....for a 9 day stay. I succeeded. also learned how to leave clothing behind to bring back gifts. Have fun on your cruise.

Painted walls... always makes everything so fresh & clean
What a nice photo of your grandparents ;) I love looking through my grandparents old photos, they were so cute together. ;)
I've had a number of things leaking from the pot into the oven too. Recently, cheese from a pizza which is hard to clean and makes the oven all smoky! ;o Does your oven clean itself by putting it on a timer and some oven cleaner ? Usually that helps!

D H cleaned the oven as well as the cookie sheet I used.
Enjoy your cruise and what a lovely picture of your grandparents. I love looking thru old pictures.
Stopping by from Hodgepodge!
Oh, I could never go anywhere with only ONE suitcase. :o) But, I definitely overpack too. Our first cruise I took all the fancy smancy stuff for the dinners, but no more. I just take some flowing black pants with a couple of different tops and "call it good." What a fun time!
7 suitcases? Wow! I don't think I took more than three with a family of 4. =)
The picture of your grandparents is lovely..
